It can be seen that circuit boards are closely related to our modern life. Therefore, in the production process of circuit boards, quality control is very important. Metallographic inspection is one of the commonly used methods for quality control. Measurement data is usually analyzed using statistical techniques, mainly analyzing the center distance of through-holes, coating thickness, etc.

    Printed circuit board is a relatively complex material system, mainly composed of a substrate and metal foil, usually copper, gold, or nickel plated. Most circuit boards are composed of multi-layer glass fibers and polymers, and there are also some that do not contain glass fibers. In addition, the composition of solder is also greatly different, which brings some difficulties to the preparation of metallographic samples.
