洛氏硬度计

    1. Rockwell hardness test

Rockwell hardness testing is a rapid hardness testing method. We will introduce you to the definition of Rockwell hardness testing and practical information on how to apply it in practice.

    2. Overview of Rockwell Hardness Testing

    Usually used for larger specimens

    No optical reading

Can be used for advanced testing

    Standards: ASTM E18, ISO 6508, and JIS Z 2245

    3. Rockwell hardness test definition

Rockwell hardness testing is commonly used in production workshops or laboratories; Quick testing” The method mainly targets metal materials. However, it can also be used for more advanced testing. Due to the relatively high load used, Rockwell hardness testing is generally only used for specimens with larger geometric shapes.

    4. Rockwell test calculation method

Rockwell hardness test calculations (HR) can be performed by measuring the depth of indentation formed by diamond or tungsten carbide balls.

    5. Pressure head

When performing Rockwell hardness testing, one of five different indenters is typically used:

    Diamond cone

    Tungsten ball (size 1/16”, 1/8”, 1/4”, or 1/2”)

    6. Main load

When performing Rockwell hardness testing, one of the six different main loads is usually used:

    15 kgf, 30 kgf, 45 kgf, 60 kgf, 100 kgf, or 150 kgf

Rockwell hardness is divided into 30 different levels. Each type is a different combination of various types of pressure heads and main loads, and each type has its own specific material or application (such as HRA, HRB, HRC, HR30N).

    7. Definition of Rockwell hardness testing method

The Rockwell hardness testing method utilizes various different levels to represent hardness, each characterized by a specific standard, indenter type, and load.

Example of Rockwell hardness testing method:

HRE 1/8” Tungsten carbide spherical indenter with a diameter; Main load of 100 kgf

HR30N (surface Rockwell 30N grade): diamond conical indenter; 30 kgf main load

    8. Application of Rockwell Hardness Testing

    Surface Preparation

Before applying Rockwell hardness testing, the surface of the material to be tested must be prepared or treated. The surface conditions required for Rockwell hardness testing depend on the load used.

Rockwell hardness testing is usually used for macroscopic hardness testing, which is typically defined as using an indenter load of less than or equal to 1 kgf. Therefore, it is usually only necessary to polish the surface, sometimes even without any preparation.

    9. Load

    Stamping time: 2-6 seconds

Sample thickness ASTM: for both types of indenters, at least 10 times the depth of the indentation

Sample thickness ISO: Diamond indenter: at least 10 times the depth of the indentation. Tungsten carbide indenter: at least 15 times the depth of the indentation
