    Application of polarizing microscope:

A polarizing microscope is a type of microscope used to study so-called transparent and opaque anisotropic materials, observing substances with birefringence.

The basic principle of a polarizing microscope:

A polarizing microscope must have the following accessories: polarizing mirror, polarizing mirror, compensator or phase plate, dedicated stress-free objective, and rotating stage.

    Characteristics of polarizing microscope:

The method of changing ordinary light into polarized light for microscopic examination to identify whether a substance is single refractive (isotropic) or birefringent (anisotropic). Birefringence is a fundamental characteristic of crystals. Therefore, polarizing microscopy is widely used in fields such as minerals and chemistry, as well as in biology, botany, and liquid crystal research.

    The method of polarizing microscopy:

    1) Normal phase mirror inspection: also known as distortionless mirror inspection, it is characterized by the use of low-power objective lenses, without the use of Bertrand Lens, and the subject can be directly studied using polarized light. At the same time, to reduce the illumination aperture, push open the upper lens of the condenser. Normal phase microscopy is used to check the birefringence of objects.

    2) Conoscope, also known as interferometry, studies the interference pattern generated during polarized light interference. This method is used to observe the uniaxial or biaxial nature of an object. In this method, strong convergent polarized beams are used for illumination.

Requirements for polarizing microscope on device:

    1) Light source: It is better to use Monochromatic radiation, because the speed, refractive index and interference phenomenon of light are different due to different wavelengths. Ordinary light can be used for general microscopy.

    2) Eyepiece: Eyepiece with a cross hair.

   3) Bertrand lens: An auxiliary component in the optical path of a condenser, which amplifies all primary phases caused by an object into secondary phases. It ensures the use of an eyepiece to observe the interference pattern formed in the focal plane behind the objective lens.

    Precautions for using Leica microscope:

To ensure the service life and reliability of the system, the following precautions should be taken:

    1) The laboratory should have three protective conditions: shockproof (away from the earthquake source), moisture-proof (using air conditioning and dryers), and dustproof (laying the floor on the ground);

    Power supply: 220V+-10%, 50HZ temperature: 0-40 degrees

    2) When focusing, be careful not to let the objective lens touch the sample to avoid scratching the objective lens.

    3) Do not switch the objective lens when the center of the pad circular hole on the stage is close to the center of the objective lens to avoid scratching the objective lens.

    4) Brightness adjustment should not be too high or too low, as it may affect the lifespan of the light bulb and also damage vision.

    5) All (function) switches should be light and in place.

    6) When turning off, turn the brightness to the minimum.
