cast magnesium alloy
Magnesium alloys are difficult to prepare due to their low matrix hardness and relatively high precipitation phase hardness, making them prone to embossing. Cutting, grinding, or excessive loading may cause mechanical twinning, so the selection of metallographic polishing solution during the grinding and polishing process is particularly important.
In general, when preparing and polishing magnesium alloy samples, it is appropriate to use diamond polishing paste and grinding oil on a medium fluff polishing cloth, or use American QMAXIS oil-based OilDia diamond suspension with a particle size of 1-9 μ m. Or American sol gel AluminaPrep QMAXIS aluminum oxide polishing solution, Ph8.5, particle size 0.05 μ M. You can easily obtain the ideal metallographic analysis surface for magnesium alloy samples.
In practice, our engineers can also achieve a brighter surface by spraying alcohol instead of polishing solution. It should be noted that continuous spraying is necessary to rotate the sample while polishing, effectively preventing friction between the polishing cloth and the sample surface from generating heat and accelerating surface oxidation. After polishing, it should be immediately sealed in alcohol. In this way, ideal magnesium alloy metallographic samples can be prepared.
