For the polishing of metallographic samples, diamond polishing solution is a more commonly used polishing material, and the removal rate of diamond abrasive particles in the polishing solution directly affects the polishing rate. From the figure, it can be seen that the shapes of both are irregular polyhedral block shaped particles. Single crystal diamond has good dispersibility, higher utilization rate of sharp corners, and higher cost-effectiveness, making it more suitable for polishing materials such as ceramics; Polycrystalline diamond particles are mostly adhered together in a condensed state, presenting numerous sharp surfaces. The material removal rate is high, effectively reducing polishing time. At the same time, the polishing of the sample surface is softer, effectively reducing deformation, and the amount used is relatively small. Materials with higher requirements for the sample surface are more suitable for polycrystalline diamond polishing fluids.
Of course, in practical applications, the polishing effect may vary due to differences in materials, selection of polishing cloth materials, and preparation parameters. Users need to constantly summarize their experience in order to choose a more suitable type of polishing solution and preparation method.
