Question: The metallographic sample material is copper, brass, and the selected silicon carbide cutting blade. During the cutting process, there was a phenomenon of knife jamming and sticking. Is it the wrong choice of the blade?

Firstly, it is definitely not a problem with the cutting tool. Choosing a silicon carbide grinding wheel to cut copper is very reasonable and there is no problem.

There may be several reasons for knife sticking or jamming:

    (1) Excessive loading pressure can cause knife sticking problems

    (2) Also, the metallographic cutting speed is not suitable, and the coolant does not circulate. After generating heat, the copper will locally melt, which will also stick to the knife

In addition, there may be other reasons that need to be determined through microscopic images of the material being cut. Otherwise, the operator will need to follow the speculation to troubleshoot the problem.

The above is the response from the American QMAXIS metallographic sample preparation expert for your reference. Welcome to bring your difficult to prepare metallographic samples to our laboratory to help you solve difficult problems.
