Under what circumstances is hot pressing inlay used? And listen to Ke Mai's editor explain:

The material observed by metallography is the decisive factor in all cutting, inlaying, and grinding preparation processes.

The second factors that need to be considered are size, shape, preparation time, preparation quantity, observation purpose, requirements for equipment and consumables to achieve preparation, budget for purchasing experimental equipment and consumables, cost reduction and efficiency improvement measures, environmental protection emissions, and so on.

The decisive factor in whether to use hot pressing or cold embedding in the embedding process of material samples is naturally determined by the characteristics of the material itself.

The hot pressing inlay technology is to use a hot pressing inlay machine to heat and compress the inlay resin suitable for the material and the purpose of this experiment, and then embed the sample.

Its characteristics are:

&Bull; The process of shaping the inlay resin into a inlay block involves heating and pressing, so there is no shrinkage problem with the inlay material

&Bull; The diameter of the inlay cylinder is standard size, so the inlay block size consistency is very high every time

&Bull; The edges of the sample are fully protected, and the defects on the surface of the sample are also completely preserved

&Bull; The average sample preparation time of MetLab's METPRESS series hot pressing inlay machine is about 8 minutes, which saves a lot of time

So, when do you choose hot pressing inlay?

The primary concern is that the material observed by metallography is not sensitive to heat and pressure. The upper heating limit of MetLab's METPRESS series hot pressing inlay machine is 200 ℃, and the upper pressure limit is 345bar. To consider whether the sample can be embedded using hot pressing technology.

If the material observed by metallography is not affected by the above temperature and pressure, then hot pressing inlay is preferred. The quality of the sample is indeed excellent. From an economic perspective, the price of consumables for hot pressing inlay is lower than that of cold inlay consumables and supporting auxiliary materials. Therefore, in addition to the investment factors for the initial purchase of hot pressing inlay machines, hot pressing inlay is an ideal choice for reducing costs and increasing efficiency in the long-term metallographic sample preparation process.
